Oil Tank Storage Helped Us Clean Up the Yard

Our scrap yard was getting messier and messier. We knew that such organization would lead us to working more efficiently, but we were just so busy we didn't have time to organize ourselves. We had to find the time to organize it - put each piece of scrap into an area where we could easily locate it. We also bought one of those oil storage tanks to store our oil instead of haphazardly in various drums around the yard. We eventually had a quiet weekend and set to work After we cleaned the yard, work was so much easier. When someone asked if we had a particular type of scrap metal, we knew immediately even just by casting an eye around the yard. It's let to an uptick in business and now we wouldn't want our yard any other way other than super organized - it just makes sense.

Old Barns Have Lots of Dust

Several years ago my husband and I bought a property with on old dairy barn on it. You know the kind, with the big drive-in haymow and stalls for cows below. We have a few horses and felt it would be ideal to house them and for hay storage. The previous owner had neglected to clean up the barn very well, and it had large piles of old straw which had been used for bedding and unbelieveable dust and spider webs everywhere. We had to wear respiration masks while we worked in there, but finally got all the mess out using all sorts of equipment - from big (forks, spades) to small (cable ties, wipes). Now it's a great horse stable with box stalls, and it's warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I'd say all the work was really worth the effort - and thank goodness for that.

How I Love to Make Changes to My Home

posted on 10 February 2011

From my childhood, I have always been fond of colour matching and I'm very much interested in design aspects of home improvement - therefore I'm always making changes to my home's interior. I don't have the DIY skills mind you. My mate comes round with his bench saw and other tools to turn my designs into reality. I've worked on the colour schemes of my home, one room at a time. Each room has its own "swatch" of colours - some are just shades of a single colour, some adhere to the "opposite" colour rule as laid down by Goethe's colour wheel. For example, one room has purples and greens. I also take great care with Feng Shui - colours are not just about aesthetics, but about making people feel relaxed and energetic. Colours should not darken a room either - so that is why I always insist on light coloured walls.
